Community Partnerships Promote Success

PRIZES & FUN

FOR THE FAMILY

Mathews has formed a partnership with our local Food Lion store to support student learning.  This will give students a chance to apply many of the mathematical skills that they have acquired with help from their families.

Tuesday, February 5, 2008, we will have a FAMILY MATH NIGHT at FOOD LION on Edgefield Street from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  Please plan to meet us there and share in the fun.

Mr. Jeremy Fuller, manager, has agreed to provide FREE refreshments, door prizes, and goodie bags for all the students.

“I am so proud of the support that we are getting from our Mathews’ families.  Thanks for showing how much you CARE!”

Mrs. Watson, Principal

THANKS FOR BEING PART OF OUR TEAM!

We had over 225 people to come out for Family Literacy Night, and I would like to personally thank EVERY parent who took the time come out.  This sent a very important message.  It says that you value education and that you want your child to be successful.

Also, please remember to support the Chick-Fil-A Drive-Thru.  They provided free books, sandwiches at a reduced price, and of course, a visit from the COW—the kids favorite—at Literacy Night.

Volunteers of the Month:  Helen & Corrine Gillion

Something special and a little unusual  happens each morning at Mathews Elementary School.  Two very special fourth graders arrive at 7:00 a.m. to help tutor in our Early Morning Tutoring  Program.

Helen and Corrine Gillion, twins, have volunteered to help tutor students each morning.  Their mother, Mrs. Amy Gillion, our B.E.S.T. Coordinator, says that the girls are excited and ready to get up each morning to come help in the program.  I would just like to thank Helen and Corrine for the KINDNESS shown by them and for their willingness to help others.  This story should motivate each of us to give more of ourselves to help others.
